The only hotels I've found on the Internet are large tourist resorts. I'm looking for a place to stay a few days while I investigate the possiblily of living permanently in one of these cities.I am looking for inexpensive, not resort, hotels in Santiago and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.?
This site compares all the top sites for hotel reservation. It has the luxury hotels but also the inexpensive ones you're looking for. Also, you'll find that some of the top hotels have extremely cheap rates on this site. You can book from the site. Check it out.

A nice small hotel in Santo Domingo is the Hodelpa hotel which is in the center of the colonial square. The oldest cathedral in the Americas in within walking distance, and there's a hard rock hotel just down the corner and so many shops. It's a small, nice, friendly hotel with very confortable beds and an ac unit that freezes the room on very hot days. The restaurant is very good and i overall really liked it. If you're interested go to www.hodelpa.com.
PS: there is another hodelpa in Santiago
Good luck
Hey Daniel,
I live in Sosua. 8 minutes from the Puerto Plata Airport.
Hotel Europa is 50 bux a nite high season. I own the restaurant here. The hotel is great for 1 night while you get to know the area and you can find another place the next day if it doesn't satisfy you.
Santiago is a dirty city in the middle of the country with NO beach and a begger on every corner where there is a traffic light. If you don't have to work for a living don't even think about living there.
Sosua/Cabarete is way nicer than Puerto Plata and even the Puerto Plata Airport is located on the edge of Sosua and NOT in the city of Puerto Plata. I have a blog escottinsosua.blogspot.c0m if you want to take a look at life here on the north coast. Been here for about 5 years fulltime and love it.
Email me for any questions y ou have and I will be happy to answer or direct you to someone who can if I can't.
u can find inexpensive hotels,
in the listed site
gooh hotels only in santiago, Hotel Gran Almirante, and other like those, otherwise you'll find guest houses, and motels around the area, but you wont find those listed on the internet.
book a nice hotel in town for a few days, while you find a plce to stay for good..
There are many small family run hotels. They are not on the internet. You will have no problem finding a place to stay. There are more small hotels than large resorts. Always check the room before paying. Some places are hovels. These small hotels are not yet into the internet age, but they are very low cost. If you have an extended stay you can bargian for a lower cost. It helps if you speak spanish.
