It depends what you are looking for.
If you are looking for convenience, then the hotels on the monorail line are the best. The Contemporary is my favorite. The Grand Floridian is just too darn 'snooty' for my taste, and the Polynesian just doesn't do it for me.
If you're looking for the hotel itself to be beautiful, then hands-down, I'd go with the Wilderness Lodge (not to be mistaken for Fort Wilderness). The Wilderness Lodge is absolutely breathtaking.
If you're looking for rooms with a view, then you'd want to go to the Contemporary and get a room facing the MK so you can see the fireworks from your room, or one facing the bay so you can watch the water parade at night. You can also see it from the Wilderness Lodge. Or get a savannah room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and watch the animals from your balcony.
If you are looking for value and convenience, then the All-Star Resorts are fine. The transportation is convenient, and the rooms are adequate. They're no frills, just a plain-jane room and no full-service restaurants, but if you're looking to save some money but still be close to the parks, then the ASR are the way to go.
If you're looking to make it really special, then I'd go with a room with a view, whether that's a view of the MK, the bay, or the savannah...it's just depends which of these sounds best to you. What is the best walt disney world resort hotel??!!?
I would say the Pop Century Resort. It's really fun, cool and colorful! There are different decades (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, %26amp; 90s) and each section of the hotel is modeled after that time period. The decorations, music and surroundings are all great and extravagant!
The central building of Disney's Pop Century Resort is named Classic Hall, and the facility includes the Main Lobby check-in desk, the Fast Forward arcade and the Everything Pop shop and food court, so I'm pretty sure you will love every bit of it!!

I've never stayed at either of the hotels you mentioned, but I've been to Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, and the Boardwalk Inn. All are wonderful!
I would recommend the Boardwalk Inn for a family with older kids like yours. It is in walking (or ferry) distance to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Both these parks are great! The Boardwalk is really in a pretty area. Of course there is shuttle service to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. (as well as the water parks).
Anywhere you choose, though, I'm sure will be wonderful! I love Disney World! Enjoy your trip!!
It all depends on what you like. So far the ones I have been to I love. But Disney can do no wrong in my eyes!
But Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Wilderness Loge are said to be amazing!
For me, I like them all, but I really enjoy the Value ones becuase it has a greater Disney feel. What with the Mickey Mouse bed spread, and the huge character scutlptures, no hotel can compare.
Okay well i have been to disney alot of times! And out of all the resorts we stayed at my favorite was The Beach Club Resort!! Its the best!!:D The pools are amazing even at the main pool instead of cement on the bottom its sand!!:D and there is a resturaunt in the lobby where the breakfast is amazing it was the best breakfast i ever had NO JOKE. The arcade is awesome too! You will have the time of your life if you stayed there. I know i did!:D
I like the contemporary. Their standard rooms sleep 5 (2 queens and a day bed). If you think that might be cramped, you can try a 1 bedroom. I love Bay Lake. Either way, Magic Kingdom view is awsome. You get a private viewing of the fireworks every night.
LOVE the Animal Kingdom resort. We had the savannah view room. It was so worth it. We loved being able to see the animals night and day.
I would have my coffee out on the balcony and watch all the animals. It was such a peaceful resort to come back to after a hectic day at the park.
Hiya! My personal favourite is the Animal Kingdom Lodge because it feels like you're in Kenya or somewhere in Africa. http://www.hotels.budgetflights.com.au/Hotel/Disneys_Animal_Kingdom_Lodge_Lake_Buena_Vista.htm
This hotel may suit your family.
Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn has 2 water parks

The Walt Disney World Dolphin. This is really the nicest hotel there. And it's even on the park grounds like a mofuca. It's really cheap if you use expedia.com.
Contemporary was great, but I think the best resort on property is the Grand Floridian.
coronado springs- I stayed there with my friends this summer. it's priced really good, and newly renovated :) It's also really close to most of the parks
The Grand Floridian, all the way! It had a huge pool, a kitty pool, and a it's own lake that you can take little kids (or let them drive, depending on how tall they are) on a ride on! It's extremely fun. There are also lots of restraunts, the direct monorail and ferry to Magic Kingdom (yes - when you take the ferry you actually SKIP the ticket and transportation center and go straight to the park!), and, of course, buses. The inside in phenominal. There are bands playing pretty much every night! Plus, it has a bea-Utiful look straight onto the cinderella castle. If you're tired, you don't have to stay in MK to see them, just lay on the grass and enjoy the show! :D
