We want to get away to Orlando, Florida and just want to hang out in the hotel that is fairly nice and kid friendly. I'm looking into JW Marriott. Can someone tell me their experience or recommend other resort hotels in Orlando? Thanks.Best resort hotels in Orlando, Florida?
I live nearby the JW Marriott and while it is an excellent resort I am not so sure about the kid friendly part. Located next door to the Ritz-Carlton with it's own golf course the closest theme park should the kids want to go would be Seaworld. I do not believe they have any planned events especially for children which may leave them looking for something to do besides using the pool. You didn't mention the ages of the kids so I am taking it they are too young to be allowed to go to a theme park by themselves. If that is the case, you might want to look at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, a wonderful resort for families with events for kids right on site. While the grown-ups love the amenities of the Marriott, kids have more fun at a KOA Kamping lodge. A two bedroom lodge (usually an independent cabin, not a hotel room) has a full kitchen and living room and tons of activities for children. Most have dishes, coffee makers, etc, but check to make sure. Of course you don't have maid service -- you even have to bring your own towels and sheets -- but kids have a blast.
I thought it was a crazy idea too, until I tried it. Now I stay at the KOA even when there aren't any kids involved. The price is about the same as a hotel and I get to park my car right by my front door, grill a steak on my private front porch (with porch swing), and can usually find combo a marshmallow roast and card party to finish the evening. (Hint: first soak the marshmallows for about 30 minutes in Bacardi 151 for a real treat.)
I've stayed at Grand Floridian which is a Disney resort and Portofino Bay which is a Universal resort. Both hotels were amazing and I would recommend either. The staff was incredibly helpful at both and there are tons of things to do/explore at them. With Universal you can take the boat over to Citywalk, with the Disney resort you can take the monorail to other resorts if you want to explore off the resort a bit.
